Lab Session-Present Continuous

Present Continuous.

In this lab session, I'll teach you about the structure of the "present continuous" and how to use it.

Auxiliary.

The form to use the "Auxiliary" with the present continuous is the next:


Verb-ing.

For the present continuous we need to add ing at the end of the verbs:

when the verbs ends in with one "e" we drop the "e" and add "ing" (take-taking).

when the verbs ends in "cvc" (consonat vowel consonant) we put double final consonant and add "ing" (sit-sitting).

when the verbs ends in "ie" we change the "ie" to "y" and add "ing" (die-dying)

when the verbs ends in "y" we only add "ing" (play-playing).

The present continuous is used to describe actions that are happening at the moment, that mean, at the moment in we are speaking.

Afirmatives Sentences. 

The structure for the afirmative sentences using present continuous is the next:

Subject + Auxiliary + Verb-ing + Complement

Example: 

I am playing soccer.

Negatives Sentences.

The structure for the afirmative sentences using present continuous is the next:

Subject + Auxiliary + Not + Verb-ing + Complement

Example:

She is not watching TV.


Questions.

The structure for the questions using present continuous is the next:

  • Yes/No Questions.

Auxiliary + Subject + Verb-ing + Complement + ?

Example: 

Is he going to the school?


+Yes, He is.
-No, he is not
  • Information Questions.
Wh Questions + Auxiliary + Subject + Verb-ing + Complem + ?

Example: 

What is she doing in the kitchen?

She is Cooking.
